Trayvon Martin Shooting

A lot of crazy things are being said by people who did not witness a fatal shooting last month in Florida, yet have come to some very specific conclusions. It’s hard to form an opinion with such distortion.

Did a Hispanic neighborhood watch volunteer really just see a black kid one night who was doing nothing but minding his own business, call 911 for no good reason, pick a fight with him and then shoot him dead? Just because the kid was black?

Is there any evidence to support this theory being flung about in so many places? There better be mountains of evidence to support such an ugly life destroying claim. Which led me to investigate further.

Just the facts, ma’am. here they are.

On February 26th, 2012, George Zimmerman, a 28 year old neighborhood watch volunteer in a gated community called 911 to report a suspicious person. That person was 17 year old Trayvon Martin who was returning to his fathers girlfriends home at the time. “Something’s wrong with him,” Zimmerman, told a 911 dispatcher, according to the contents of a call released last week, adding “he looks like he’s on drugs or something”. “Yep. He’s coming to check me out. He’s got something in his hands.” – later identified to be a bag of Skittles and a can of soda. Something happened… and Zimmerman fatally shot Martin.

The police report says that Zimmermans back “appeared to be wet and covered with grass (and he) was also bleeding, from the nose and back of his head,” – confirming there was a scuffle.

Zimmerman suffered a broken nose and had injury to the back of his head.

An ABC News clipping of police footage shows no blood on Zimmerman, leading declarations by many that his account of a fight was false. Other reports note that Zimmerman was treated by paramedics at the scene of the crime and obviously cleaned up before being transported, though the gash to the back of his head may be present, but is unclear (UPDATE: an abrasion to the back of Zimmermans head has been confirmed — UPDATE: So has the broken nose).

When police arrived, Zimmerman said the fatal shot was fired in self defense and was not charged with a crime, outraging Martins family and race activists across the country.

George Zimmerman says that he was approached by Martin, the two exchanged words and Martin punched him in the nose and repeatedly slammed his head into the sidewalk.

Zimmerman told the police that night and the following day, returning to the scene of the incident, that he was screaming for help. 911 calls were made by others at that time reporting that they heard screams (emanating from whom, we don’t know).

Benjamin Crump, a lawyer for Martins family calls the self-defense claim “absurd”, citing Martins girlfriend (UPDATE: evidently just a female friend. Not a “girlfriend”) who was on the phone with him prior to the shooting. Crump also noted that Zimmerman defied the advice of the 911 operator who said “we don’t need you to do that” when Zimmerman told them he was following Martin, telling NBC’s Matt Lauer “You can’t chase someone and call it self-defense”. UPDATE: There is no evidence that Zimmerman continued to follow Martin after being told “we don’t need you to do that” but there is evidence to suggest that the 911 dispatchers questions could have been interpreted as a request to investigate further, including exiting the vehicle to follow the suspect. Zimmerman claims after he was told he did not need to do that, he stopped his pursuit of Martin.

George Zimmermans father (evidently repeating what his son had said about the moments prior to firing the shot) told Orlando TV station WOF that while Treyvon Martin was beating Zimmerman, he said something to the effect of, ‘You’re going to die now’ or ‘You’re going to die tonight.’
UPDATE: Zimmerman has consistently claimed Martin uttered this phrase to him while on top of him, beating him into the ground.

George Zimmerman’s criminal record, according to WFTV, includes a 2005 arrest for resisting arrest and battery on a law enforcement officer. The case was ultimately dismissed.

Trayvon Martin was frequently in trouble with the authorities in the months leading up to his death. He was suspended three times for repeatedly skipping school, being late for class and getting caught with a marijuana pipe and empty bag with traces of marijuana in it.
UPDATE: Marijuana was found in Martins system at the time of his death.

UPDATE: Trayvons father previously called 911 to file a missing persons report on him.

Martins Twitter contains a tweet five days before he was killed from his cousin reading ‘Yu ain’t tell me yu swung on a bus driver,’ implying that Trayvon assaulted a bus driver.

Objecting to these reports, Treyvons mother said ‘They killed my son and now they’re trying to kill his reputation.’

A carousel of old photos depicting a younger Trayvon Martin are matched up against the same frowning booking photo of George Zimmerman.

An archive of his Twitter, which Martin tweeted under the handle “NO_LIMIT_NIGGA” can be found here. It contains multiple references to drugs including one that says: “Finna (I’m fixing to) smoke 1 wit my dawg wayne.” Another says: “2 glock 40’s… bitch you got 80 problems.”

Though most of his tweets are benign commentary such as “PLZZ EXERCISE YO RIGHT 2 REMAIN SILENT.. DAM”. Martins Facebook and Twitter are filled with a lot of mention of violence, guns and drugs.

The photo he chose to represent himself on Twitter and Facebook (below) shows a different style than the childhood photos the media has chosen like the one above.

Martins mother, Sabrina Fulton, alleges that Zimmerman killed her son “because of the color of his skin“. She has provided no evidence or reasoning for the claim, but that line has become that of an increasing group publicly protesting their outrage and calling for Zimmermans arrest.

The New Black Panther Party has offered a $10,000 bounty for George Zimmerman.

White on black racism was blamed for the shooting. T-shirts with a picture of George Zimmerman under the label “Pussy Ass Cracker”  have appeared.

George Zimmerman is a Spanish speaking Hispanic with no history of racism.

Zimmerman is the son of a Peruvian mother and a white father. Barack Obama is the son of a white mother and an African father, so by this standard, he should be referred to as a “white black”. Hint: He isn’t. anywhere. ever. because that’d be stupid. In an effort to retain the white-on-black storyline, the shooter, who is officially listed as Hispanic, is being referred to by some as being “white Hispanic“.

Ignoring the police reports, 911 calls and character bios of each of the men involved, an MSNBC host blamed Rush Limbaugh, Newt Gingrich and Rick Santorum for the shooting. Mitt Romney was blamed in that list too for my favorite reason: for “saying nothing”.

In other words, Trayvon Martin is dead because presidential candidate Mitt Romney did not say the right things. Thanks a lot, Mitt Romney…

Other right-of-center activists were also blamed.

The shooter was a registered Democrat who voted for Obama.

Reverend Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson have lead protests and public rallies calling for the arrest of George Zimmerman.

Spike Lee tweeted incorrect George Zimmerman address, putting some innocent woman in danger.

Rosanne tweeted the address of Zimmermans parents and threatened to go to their house.

President Barack Obama, instead of calling for calm and rational appraisal of the facts and a witholding of judgement until it has been fully examined by our system of law, injected himself into the story by saying in the Whitehouse Rose Garden “If I had a son, he’d look like Trayvon,” adding “When I think about this boy, I think about my own kids.”

House Democrats plan to bring Martins parents to Capitol Hill.

Dozens of teens in North Miami ransacked a Walgreens as part of a Trayvon Martin demonstration (your guess as to how that makes sense is as good as any others).

Meanwhile, Trayvon Martins mother is seeking to trademark her dead sons name. While this is not uncommon for murder victims (which Treyvon was not, according to the eye witnesses and police reports) such as Caylee Anthony, the specific phrases “I Am Trayvon” and “Justice for Trayvon,” were filed for use on “Digital materials, namely, CDs and DVDs featuring Trayvon Martin,” and other products.

A Twitter account labeled @KILLZimmerman has opened and features Zimmermans picture with a bullseye and tweets calling for his murder.

The “too long, didnt read” summary of this news item: A Spanish speaking Hispanic Democrat neighborhood watch volunteer somehow gets into an altercation with a black youth that results in the former being injured and the latter getting fatally shot and large groups of people are outraged of this prime example of white racism caused Republicans.
